Dual Enrollment for High School Students
Porterville College has an open agreement with local high schools in which the college will enroll 11th and 12th graders in college courses. Senate Bill 338 provides districts explicit authority to restrict the admission or enrollment of a special part-time or full-time student in any session based on age, grade-level completion, or assessment and placement procedures in conformance with Matriculation regulations (Board Policy 4A; Education Code 76002(b)).
Therefore, based on the conditions of SB 338 high schools students are restricted up to and including 6 units per semester with the exception of students participating in the Fast Track Program. This process applies to ALL students who are under the age of 18 and have not graduated from high school or completed high school equivalency. In order for a student to be placed in course work in a quick and effective manner, it is important to follow the process outlined below.

Dual Enrollment Policy for students 9th grade and under:
The college reserves the right to be restrictive in enrolling students who have attained less that the 10th grade level. The community college educational environment is geared toward adult students. Lecture/discussion courses are not always appropriate in their nature and/or language for younger students. However, we realize that academically advanced students 9th grade and under may wish to take advanced level courses. We allow enrollment of such students through the appeal process as allowed in Senate Bill 338. In addition to the enrollment procedures listed above, ALL students 9th grade and under must submit a Petition For Extenuating Circumstances to the Admission Director to be considered for enrollment.
Fast Track Program for students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades:
The Porterville College Fast Track Program is for mature, motivated high school students who are prepared for college level classes and a challenging academic environment. The Fast Track program allows high school students to complete up to 41 units of the required general education coursework by the end of their high school career. Students in the Fast Track program will be concurrently enrolled and taking courses at Porterville College as well as their normal high school coursework as early as their sophomore year in high school. When the last
track is complete, the summer following high school graduation, the student will have completed up to 41 college units.
At Porterville College, the student would then complete the remaining credits required to transfer to a four year institution. The remaining credits are dependent upon the student’s educational plan and progress.
