Cancellation of Classes
The staff of Porterville College has developed the schedule of classes expressly to meet the needs of students in our service area who desire to further their education. Every effort has been made to meet the instructional needs of the greatest number of students attending. Times and dates of classes have been arranged for the convenience and benefit of the students.
There are times when a class so scheduled falls short of the minimum number of enrollees to justify offering it. Usually, this minimum number is 16 or less students. This generally happens in less than five percent of the offerings in any given semester. We regret the inconvenience the cancellation of even one class may cause to our students. Porterville College desires that all classes scheduled be successfully enrolled. However, Porterville College reserves the right to cancel a scheduled class because of insufficient enrollment, lack of a qualified credentialed instructor, or in the best interest of students and the overall college program.
Exceptions to the minimum class size may be made by the President for exceptional circumstances, including the following: infrequently offered classes which are required for a major, required for a certificate, required for graduation; the second or higher level class in a course sequence; classes offered on an experimental basis; classes which provide a unique service to a special population of students; or classes which may be needed to complete the teaching load of a full-time instructor.
