The Porterville College catalog clearly describes the regulations and procedures regarding limits on credit load, minimum credit requirements, English requirements, required labs, course prerequisites, refund policies, probation and disqualification policies, etc.
The catalog is available online.
The Porterville College staff is available to assist students in meeting requirements and following the procedures as outlined in the catalog. However, students are ultimately responsible for their academic progress.
Where do I make name and address changes?
It is your responsibility to notify the Office of Admissions and Records immediately of any name changes. Students may make address changes in MyBanWeb on the college website.
What is the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act?
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (Section - 438, Public Law 93-380) gives students three important rights:
1. The right to inspect their student records,
2. The right to challenge incorrect information in those records, and
3. The right to keep their student records private.
The law authorizes the release of directory information in the absence of student objection including name, address, date and place of birth, major field of study, current class schedule, and participation in activities, dates of attendance, degrees and awards, and last institution attended. Contact the Office of Admissions and Records for further information.
What is Dual Enrollment through Fast Track ?
The Dual Enrollment through Fast Track is for students who would like to attend college while still in high school. The enrollment is open to high school students who are prepared for advanced scholastic or community college level courses, which are acceptable for the Associate Degree or transfer programs.
The community college educational environment is geared toward adult students. Lecture/discussion courses are not always appropriate in their nature and/or language for younger students. However, we realize that academically advanced High School students may wish to take advance-level courses. We allow enrollment of such students through Dual Enrollment. Students are restricted to nine or less units. High School students in 9th grade are restricted to six units.
When are fees due?
Payment is due upon registration.
Prior to the last day of open registration, students will be dropped for non-payment of enrollment fees ten (10) days after the date they registered for the particular course(s). After the last day of open registration, students will not be dropped for non-payment of enrollment fees; however, these students will have a hold placed on their transcripts, grades, diplomas and registration privileges until their enrollment fees are paid.
Students will not be charged enrollment fees for waitlisted classes until they are added to the class. Please remember to check your registration status for any waitlisted classes to ensure you pay within ten (10) days from the date you are added to those classes.
Any account balance older than 120 days may be subject to the collection process.
Are services available for evening students?
Yes, Porterville College provides evening services. Please check thecollege website for a listing of evening hours.
Does the college offer any Saturday programs?
Yes, the college provides a limited number of courses on Saturdays.
May I repeat courses?
Credit courses MAY NOT BE REPEATED except for the following reasons:
- A previous grade of D, F, or NP is recorded for that course.
- A course has been previously designated as being a repeatable course in the college catalog. Check the college catalog for the number of times a course may be repeated.
How do I add classes?
If a class is closed, students should use the waitlist to ensure themselves a chance of getting into the classes they want. Students on waitlists must attend the first meeting of the class or they may be dropped from the waitlist. Students may add an open class through the"first census" without the instructor's signature. Please check the College Calendar for census dates.
After the"first census", any"late enrollment adds" may only be added with instructor's signature and with the first date of attendance unless the class is late-starting or open entry with a program change.
How do I drop classes?
It is the students' responsibility to officially withdraw from any class or classes in which they no longer wish to be enrolled. Students are responsible for dropping their courses both from the schedule and waitlist; non-payment or non-attendance will not release students from this responsibility.
After registration, students may officially withdraw from a class or classes online via MyBanWeb. Fees incurred for registration are due ten days after the transaction. Students will not receive a billing statement and should regularly check their account on the web. Please check the college web site at for the drop dates.
